Photographic, printed works, and this blog were produced as a result of this exploration. The course was designed to merge photography, letterpress, cut-and-paste, journaling and bookmaking techniques, with the cultural experience of the city. Students researched, observed and immersed themselves in art and culture through site visits, discussions, workshops, mapping and the pure adventure of being-in and visually exploring the city. <br /><br />Niku Kashef, Instructor<br />Graham Moore, Instructor<br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Graphic Design 2750<br />Woodbury University, 2010</span><br /><br /><span style="font-weight:bold;">Participating Students</span><br />Leila Amer<br />Kristine Edinchikyan<br />Kimberly Galanto<br />Ambar Gomez<br />Naveen Gowda<br />Brian Hardy<br />Alexander Kuhse<br />Aaron Lopez<br />Jennifer Nassef<br />Brenda Ordaz<br />Laura Orozco<br />Elizabeth Sweeney<br />Jennifer Vonikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-25795737546292868492010-08-20T10:37:00.000-07:002010-08-20T12:07:55.704-07:00My visual/cultural experience by Alex Kuhse<div style="text-align: left;">Trying to put the cultural and visual experience I had in London into a small blog post is nearly impossible. All the fish and chips, architecture, coffees, small streets, busy schedules, record stores, new friends, old friends in new places, stories, museums, art, tube stops, the list can go on forever. All I can say is London is a city full of...</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /><div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjduF9Yk_5gaGDrBtZrLYWbmb8PfZ2Iwhn0HTRpF5fGBEQVf_rET6r_Lo4ndb56SvH7iZRPbw4atewiIXWlc56pwaBLNEmeEGNvtI25c2oVDVmpdeoyCnt0KToH26fj3EyJe96ETnmF50g/s320/_DSC0220.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507553697391277746" /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><div><br /></div><div>So instead of glazing over my entire time, I'd rather focus on one cultural experience I had that blew me away on a wednesday night...</div><div><br /></div><div>To really experience a new culture, it is crucial to spend at least a few hours on</div><div> your own wandering the streets. The city unfolds in front of you as you take the time to notice everything. I was taking photos and decided to venture down a strange alley half taken by construction. I was a bit weary at first, but as I ventured a bit deeper, I started to hear ukuleles. And as I got closer I began to see a back alley pub front courtyard covered in people playing ukuleles. I was a bit confused still and decided to head in. I saw a girl walk past me with her ukulele headed towards stairs to the basement and into the noise of many. I looked around me for a second, and then decided to follow the ukuleles. As I slowly took each step, not knowing where I was going, a sense of calmness overcame me. When I reached the bottom, I looked around and realized I had stumbled across a ukulele 'jam'. Behind every ukulele was a face glowing with good times as it sang at the top of its lungs to classic songs like 'Brown Eyed Girl' and 'Bad Moon Rising'. I immediately became a fly on the wall and caught the glow on their faces into my own. There were players from every age range, every walk of life, coming together in a basement of a pub to just play their ukuleles. I'd never seen anything like it. I couldn't help but sit there for a few hours happily observing the connection they all had with one another. The feeling of the whole scene, the joy in everyone's faces, was an awe inspiring scene from such a small unexpected group. Something I would have never experienced or seen if I hadn't have wandered off with the intention of just experiencing the city. I travel often, and I have always found the best experiences one can have is to just get lost and immerse yourself in your surroundings with an open mind. There is no other way to truly experience a new place. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1GgvGRLUhIfCQG2iR-1LifOjf0MgWX72osm_0FlAoX48TjQc8-7FyIz8cOlGp4Dt9tw2VOe5JziatnXhwRggZ-DJRlp9WP3qXakIzncFplzgwnskiL9euki9hmBHsAfwyIcX8F5dBen0Y/s1600/_DSC0250.JPG"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1GgvGRLUhIfCQG2iR-1LifOjf0MgWX72osm_0FlAoX48TjQc8-7FyIz8cOlGp4Dt9tw2VOe5JziatnXhwRggZ-DJRlp9WP3qXakIzncFplzgwnskiL9euki9hmBHsAfwyIcX8F5dBen0Y/s320/_DSC0250.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507562557463999026" style="display: block; I had been there before when I was 16 and I couldn't wait to get back. When <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Niku</span> my photography teacher told me that there was a class going to London over the summer I had to be a part of it. I figured my way there got together all i needed and on July 6<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">th</span> i headed out to London with my friends Alex and <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Naveen</span>. I could not wait to get off the plane. We arrived and headed into the city.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqYZ8hJuayy8ci_Baf5zonKtb5Wp3isFDK8lzeo8eYP5RtXw_vC75GBsdzRCIW47opdDKW-Wm6A-b56swcsG-BzVjHyHnOh4XqE-hnq465GYJE5x8chOA9altrBoEGvVWgegTGpZTMcfU/s1600/DSC_4343.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqYZ8hJuayy8ci_Baf5zonKtb5Wp3isFDK8lzeo8eYP5RtXw_vC75GBsdzRCIW47opdDKW-Wm6A-b56swcsG-BzVjHyHnOh4XqE-hnq465GYJE5x8chOA9altrBoEGvVWgegTGpZTMcfU/s320/DSC_4343.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507313915051601058" border="0" /></a>Whether we were walking around or just hanging out in a pub. I couldn't help but being in awe of ever aspect of the English way of Life. I noticed that life in <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">London</span> although it was fast paced as soon as 7 o'clock came, everything slowed down and turned indoors to family life. The simplicity of life in london is captivating and I could not have enjoyed it any more.<br /><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifRGXJKk2pAaImOhtW7qEpYn6yV5chhaDe52dzST1SRZQyYM2wg5aqLMJ8X8nVNDaUAujJkMtgvnRUfw8xrflp4C5yGtObbSNAcj76kDU-u9yvKNchwlqSDogiLWBgSVmEKS-oDNbRy9VU/s1600/DSC_4372.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifRGXJKk2pAaImOhtW7qEpYn6yV5chhaDe52dzST1SRZQyYM2wg5aqLMJ8X8nVNDaUAujJkMtgvnRUfw8xrflp4C5yGtObbSNAcj76kDU-u9yvKNchwlqSDogiLWBgSVmEKS-oDNbRy9VU/s320/DSC_4372.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507314230206318850" border="0" /></a></span></span>Throughout the trip I looked through the viewfinder of my camera. As an architecture student I could not help but fall in love with the variety of different styles of architecture. The contrasting styles sitting next to each other were spectacular. Even on the east coast of the United States there is no where that you can find 500 year buildings contrasted by the modern marvels of today.<br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><span style="font-family:verdana;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2LWyYKjppnhUPj58dux0mZiGYlPwnHl_SiQ4O-mp_fZ-8l9R6jy_CHCdXm7BF0pmTxTuV5gxnVS4tJDpMdRVHtZGZCJl6HK2QmTgi72Sk3GleHr9aFfY073UwSBlEdRx9YEafMnfmOEuL/s1600/DSC_4404.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2LWyYKjppnhUPj58dux0mZiGYlPwnHl_SiQ4O-mp_fZ-8l9R6jy_CHCdXm7BF0pmTxTuV5gxnVS4tJDpMdRVHtZGZCJl6HK2QmTgi72Sk3GleHr9aFfY073UwSBlEdRx9YEafMnfmOEuL/s320/DSC_4404.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507315929788071954" border="0" /></a>Looking back on this trip I would have to say that if I had not gone my life would have definitely been missing something. My trip to London this past summer inspired me to make my decision to work towards and go accomplish my masters degree and live in London.<br /><br />-Brian Hardy<br />Woodbury University<br />Architecture Student<br /><br /></span></span></span></span></span>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17038693634584028439noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-37567652651058645992010-07-26T09:14:00.000-07:002010-08-20T10:16:32.729-07:00My visual/ cultural experience by Kristine Edinchikyan<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgalOR7ZaugA8dMKh2NeLuSEEqDLU77aidAT6KiN1dC8xPy6udhk4YPLFkQk84p9HucPGhTZAV2wkyiQqKHD92CmOoIq6DWt7PpaRBValogV_scNp6NdpADBBgSXiIV3tpWHKsGqgkbAv_4/s1600/london6.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507541498408747202" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgalOR7ZaugA8dMKh2NeLuSEEqDLU77aidAT6KiN1dC8xPy6udhk4YPLFkQk84p9HucPGhTZAV2wkyiQqKHD92CmOoIq6DWt7PpaRBValogV_scNp6NdpADBBgSXiIV3tpWHKsGqgkbAv_4/s320/london6.JPG" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXpKpO5DMXyRAy54RbXUdGlPuUu-yJ9ap_iuYYIFySjDTDwhsKyoy76egjhW0tyH1yWNu8npA1l3kbfZzlk8sBWS9WxTvmH46_fQcQubC-0596IWRJThzBkNgVsAtuXqOKRv21G1WCZI7x/s1600/london5.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507541490116422434" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXpKpO5DMXyRAy54RbXUdGlPuUu-yJ9ap_iuYYIFySjDTDwhsKyoy76egjhW0tyH1yWNu8npA1l3kbfZzlk8sBWS9WxTvmH46_fQcQubC-0596IWRJThzBkNgVsAtuXqOKRv21G1WCZI7x/s320/london5.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeZp1G22OGOtDx_NA-LpYK7hWpdAbfFt8-xDO2uCnQ_Inm86-JBhrznhvEp3cSKtMXIdG5FjU7t6mbPb1y_XbZuPO205FL70ch8OiQ3IkX0IG9Uaec8BzOw0aISIpqPFKn19HIuzjBZSyt/s1600/london3.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507541484692043058" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeZp1G22OGOtDx_NA-LpYK7hWpdAbfFt8-xDO2uCnQ_Inm86-JBhrznhvEp3cSKtMXIdG5FjU7t6mbPb1y_XbZuPO205FL70ch8OiQ3IkX0IG9Uaec8BzOw0aISIpqPFKn19HIuzjBZSyt/s320/london3.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5U71nRm2XM3lT7CMy8lzg4PtnWyCZjuFbclv8-q67yxagVFSnvHCTfhaWXcThQi5W8Vz0lrv4EKXGqjmdKQMb4ORCBy8GZcbbiZPLbPQnaFV7Af8s2RLh0J0UaV2C9VOF1j2DA69WUMZ/s1600/london2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507541472782618978" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw5U71nRm2XM3lT7CMy8lzg4PtnWyCZjuFbclv8-q67yxagVFSnvHCTfhaWXcThQi5W8Vz0lrv4EKXGqjmdKQMb4ORCBy8GZcbbiZPLbPQnaFV7Af8s2RLh0J0UaV2C9VOF1j2DA69WUMZ/s320/london2.jpg" /></a> </div><div> </div><div><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ-iOd1JCX44UmnG2IODq_33KU_J7Ojv4kN1D-iwzqMG2N-S7rsGzP3BBdI4XVMPsURFN6xG4qoxcMgPMuRbPumeCf1_GjYVrdO1oFPtkQw1M2SL9hwzwsjbVzizn-4pC6jKDgJyd6eBUh/s1600/london.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 214px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5507540764066246578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ-iOd1JCX44UmnG2IODq_33KU_J7Ojv4kN1D-iwzqMG2N-S7rsGzP3BBdI4XVMPsURFN6xG4qoxcMgPMuRbPumeCf1_GjYVrdO1oFPtkQw1M2SL9hwzwsjbVzizn-4pC6jKDgJyd6eBUh/s320/london.JPG" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;">This trip to London has been one of the best experiences in my life so far. From the second that i arrived in London i was amazed by all of the beauty and history in the city. Everywhere i walked there was something new and exciting to discover. I came out of this experience having learned more than I could have possibly expected. Having grown up and lived in the same place my entire life I had no idea that a culture could be so different and welcoming. I loved every moment of my experience and I know that I'll always remember the wonderful people and places we went to along the way.</span></div><br /><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;">Kristine Edinchikyan</span></div><div><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;">Architecture</span></div><div><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;">Woodbury University<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family:arial;font-size:85%;"></span></div></div></div></div>kristine.edihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06270555267401800058noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-42579392547995918882010-07-23T03:09:00.006-07:002010-07-28T13:23:31.470-07:00My Visual/Cultural Experience by Aaron Lopez<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjON9dL-efv2MdK6oWZg1a4liNnuNP5c3_gnBcQs58PVKgUAqNnVmNfw8IhiOslcD8kiMg0l7CK79tnOtmeYH97IZbHFvtt2qHWOAMNsz6iNI0VuX5oWICnsSC35A-gRN6lkNpam61AeGQ/s1600/38412_450502809187_618784187_6200626_8203863_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjON9dL-efv2MdK6oWZg1a4liNnuNP5c3_gnBcQs58PVKgUAqNnVmNfw8IhiOslcD8kiMg0l7CK79tnOtmeYH97IZbHFvtt2qHWOAMNsz6iNI0VuX5oWICnsSC35A-gRN6lkNpam61AeGQ/s320/38412_450502809187_618784187_6200626_8203863_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499053877205129138" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6HlNtF7ewX5Eu_NRrwkuyLm3sGxluKOmzu_hd1zNPcUoFWUOwq6TyvzKudaoeLMg2br5FvLlX1ItvKrq5_51am4Ty5-FZgiiUC5Sz4oPidVmKCtyJGTG95WA0bfreBokX9mhOUCirdjI/s1600/38160_447969354187_618784187_6128522_1256797_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6HlNtF7ewX5Eu_NRrwkuyLm3sGxluKOmzu_hd1zNPcUoFWUOwq6TyvzKudaoeLMg2br5FvLlX1ItvKrq5_51am4Ty5-FZgiiUC5Sz4oPidVmKCtyJGTG95WA0bfreBokX9mhOUCirdjI/s320/38160_447969354187_618784187_6128522_1256797_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499053868314769970" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizFVTXcWV00X_rqvZwyISNGAz6CfshX_IBI1wwfyahcsMzj5Q05qardGXblkfDpvqC6R_fFfW2v0cjJiY0UX0LPss9WRKEB4ImcR-I0tMmR1FsDoK62N4UbfjMJMeZpe34quZGA8fMYKg/s1600/35353_449682394187_618784187_6172937_2882803_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizFVTXcWV00X_rqvZwyISNGAz6CfshX_IBI1wwfyahcsMzj5Q05qardGXblkfDpvqC6R_fFfW2v0cjJiY0UX0LPss9WRKEB4ImcR-I0tMmR1FsDoK62N4UbfjMJMeZpe34quZGA8fMYKg/s320/35353_449682394187_618784187_6172937_2882803_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499053865116923506" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwS2M3zI1PkosFVljvtb_aUYub5gnydimjA2oPIgrYOYJh_F4JiNI7Z-I5_7mgGO3XXcwlCm1kmIv-5gXnGTHIc4DwfVi9Yh7w_aBFftNjUfbcwqHLLPWrtbrfTnVQDNBOwvk08NRh7G0/s1600/35353_449682379187_618784187_6172934_314100_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwS2M3zI1PkosFVljvtb_aUYub5gnydimjA2oPIgrYOYJh_F4JiNI7Z-I5_7mgGO3XXcwlCm1kmIv-5gXnGTHIc4DwfVi9Yh7w_aBFftNjUfbcwqHLLPWrtbrfTnVQDNBOwvk08NRh7G0/s320/35353_449682379187_618784187_6172934_314100_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499053856629304898" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiz_MHkxtGKs8bqbJjhaouh3vxuQS5qePzMNlADqwOqmSXLgj8x4Qn-Kpg9Bm2992ZenYOVtVyfSJy4LXTmU1yFS5E7nkBoLggzyl4O_6dIffLbTt8195oCYt-mGyfIlOXVl3bk2eXUso/s1600/35238_449794654187_618784187_6175688_3654990_n.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiz_MHkxtGKs8bqbJjhaouh3vxuQS5qePzMNlADqwOqmSXLgj8x4Qn-Kpg9Bm2992ZenYOVtVyfSJy4LXTmU1yFS5E7nkBoLggzyl4O_6dIffLbTt8195oCYt-mGyfIlOXVl3bk2eXUso/s320/35238_449794654187_618784187_6175688_3654990_n.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499053847286716482" /></a><br /><span style="font-family:times new roman;">So, It's my last day here in LONDON! It's been a great journey, full of unforgettable memories. The only regret is not spending my pounds wisely. haha. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the company of my fellow Woodbury classmates. There were some ups and downs, highs and lows, and times of feeling dead tired. Walking around London, I realized that the world really is a small place. Many of my classmates met people that were from California and some of them even ran into people they knew. It was crazy. It only took a day to get accustomed to the vast city of London. It felt so much like LA. The best moments for me were the photo exhibitions. </span> <span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">Exposed </span>at the <a href="http://www.tate.org.uk/">TATE MODERN</a>, <span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">Sally Mann </span><span style="font-family:times new roman;">at the <a href="http://www.photonet.org.uk/index.php?pxid=964">PHOTOGRAPHERS GALLERY</a>, and the </span><span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">Wolfgang Tillman</span><span style="font-family:times new roman;"> at <a href="http://www.serpentinegallery.org/2010/06/wolfgang_tillmans26_june_29_au_1.html">The SERPENTINE</a>. It was amazing seeing work by artist that inspire me to take photographs. The 3-day letter press workshop was also another favorite. The simple Galley Press was my favorite thing to use. I couldn't stop thinking of things to do with it. London is a great city and the small things make it better. The pubs, the laughs, the drinks, and the friends made this trip amazing. London should expect many more visits from me in the future.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">-Aaron Lopez</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">Woodbury University</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family:times new roman;">Graphic Design</span>nikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-4213580804660340442010-07-23T03:09:00.005-07:002010-08-20T09:41:29.451-07:00My visual/cultural experience by Jenn NassefIt was about a year ago when the anticipation of the London trip began to build. I had never left the country before, and when I heard about this trip I knew I was that much closer to the beginning of my travel journeys I have always dreamed of. Experiencing a new country and interacting with their customs in a visual and cultural manner allowed us to perceive the city of London in a new perspective beyond the typical tourist's eye.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLHp_7LC99ZU8YuniXt_k6SbrbJqMk0N2dgcel5J_um72FhOOlE0DHQra-Wu8y2pVJ9ka_kno__ELs1vhuQMdt-zK2cST8DbpdmyIkn4LO5osMKUU2Xo-w0RJhRtjcsibb2Ncp2dkvP5s/s1600/DSC_0103.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLHp_7LC99ZU8YuniXt_k6SbrbJqMk0N2dgcel5J_um72FhOOlE0DHQra-Wu8y2pVJ9ka_kno__ELs1vhuQMdt-zK2cST8DbpdmyIkn4LO5osMKUU2Xo-w0RJhRtjcsibb2Ncp2dkvP5s/s320/DSC_0103.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504739433584996194" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi00_-ElXncxA5lC4r96ELfjuFgJMecDH0AReSJPdgfZBxNHP4vNnYtwlwq6q_iaIc5bxX-blJFGolpHsJteuavanruz6RqvOfCuMjIA3ckv3sjTPUwcrZMsTAQZps7IinQSLELy_HK-vc/s1600/DSC_0093.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi00_-ElXncxA5lC4r96ELfjuFgJMecDH0AReSJPdgfZBxNHP4vNnYtwlwq6q_iaIc5bxX-blJFGolpHsJteuavanruz6RqvOfCuMjIA3ckv3sjTPUwcrZMsTAQZps7IinQSLELy_HK-vc/s320/DSC_0093.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504739190126282546" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPTf_G0Lmd-RVSBaM6RZ8nhy0uCLzre5qt81WDER2aKpHVfHo0k_NFU-isZPRBpaj0zSajAAM0XsSYE8YMXDg7b_B5iODsXD_NXOaA-KQCWd4gxCX_J0zDgMTDiNnuiF1eFEaWAUN-OEc/s1600/DSC_0113.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPTf_G0Lmd-RVSBaM6RZ8nhy0uCLzre5qt81WDER2aKpHVfHo0k_NFU-isZPRBpaj0zSajAAM0XsSYE8YMXDg7b_B5iODsXD_NXOaA-KQCWd4gxCX_J0zDgMTDiNnuiF1eFEaWAUN-OEc/s320/DSC_0113.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504739688678528530" border="0" /></a>We were able to see many of the iconic landmarks and distinct aspects of London on our endless walks through the streets of London where locals rushed by and tourists roamed. The underground took us quickly to the many locations that we stopped to admire historic churches, vast castles, the infamous London eye, the towering Big Ben, and many other beautiful landmarks throughout the city and along the Thames river.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ5gkOW5TmoIb5WvjmJ0OmhTgptBt1BFbcAfaLfg0PyFXttXCmxhC5Ca22fFpC2G7Xal2b9bso5eaB2LrgVYZ1hWTEGFjVSHw5SENz8R2OtLMYWAqoHblKcZoqNqtP5hHSccSFDuuvung/s1600/DSC_0148.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ5gkOW5TmoIb5WvjmJ0OmhTgptBt1BFbcAfaLfg0PyFXttXCmxhC5Ca22fFpC2G7Xal2b9bso5eaB2LrgVYZ1hWTEGFjVSHw5SENz8R2OtLMYWAqoHblKcZoqNqtP5hHSccSFDuuvung/s320/DSC_0148.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504742817602389362" border="0" /></a>The very first thing that I immediately associated London with was the rustic bricks that built a majority of the city. The unique colors and textures within these bricks were a form of art in themselves that held many stories of the past and revealed a sense of time. Unlike the urban sensation we live amongst on a daily basis, the city of London captured a sense of the past.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAYKgpAu-HC0EWvJs_P-y1xTefEPR77suVaq24OCjzG0hPPCy-f8lksVN0xdG6LfEYJKfGeheHwKRZJ4uef-MRM9MMzSMNpcwyaIsgK5fw9LnIPMp0quB8IGC0qAZZofontyUsLQjEC0E/s1600/DSC_0018.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAYKgpAu-HC0EWvJs_P-y1xTefEPR77suVaq24OCjzG0hPPCy-f8lksVN0xdG6LfEYJKfGeheHwKRZJ4uef-MRM9MMzSMNpcwyaIsgK5fw9LnIPMp0quB8IGC0qAZZofontyUsLQjEC0E/s320/DSC_0018.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504744638705009234" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs1DccfnDUVaa61Ctf1OIjglhwmbuGUAz_rZZlf-ovXSASVS8o8-Nj12jaA1taM2rNi3jsHVqjuQ05Ytj79zIr7D0vpC9ySpVgfFM_JKd2yeFfGJeQO3ttquC7NLjoYjlvxgBWRs4vTiw/s1600/DSC_0049.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs1DccfnDUVaa61Ctf1OIjglhwmbuGUAz_rZZlf-ovXSASVS8o8-Nj12jaA1taM2rNi3jsHVqjuQ05Ytj79zIr7D0vpC9ySpVgfFM_JKd2yeFfGJeQO3ttquC7NLjoYjlvxgBWRs4vTiw/s320/DSC_0049.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504745011843849362" border="0" /></a>Being exposed to the variety of artwork within the galleries and museums we visited was an amazing opportunity and particularly inspirational. It allowed for us the chance to roam the city like a local would. Not only did London live up to my anticipations, it induced much growth in me, personally. I can sincerely say that this trip has made me a better artist and photographer, a better designer, and a better and more worldly person otherwise. In my case, never before until now.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGigo1JvIII/AAAAAAAAAAU/SBIvxTNbPE4/s1600/IMG_2653+copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGigo1JvIII/AAAAAAAAAAU/SBIvxTNbPE4/s320/IMG_2653+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505827167783559298" border="0" /></a>The instant I exited the airport and took my first steps in London, everything was a real eye-opener! The taxi cabs, the cars, the roads, the signs, the people, the accents, the slang, food, buildings, everything! It was quite amazing. Everything was so different and beautiful. Large old yet detailed loom up over the city and red telephone booths accompany every corner of the streets and there are just so many people! Here I thought L.A was so crowded, and boy I felt silly comparing it to how London is. Night life in London is just as lively and crowded as it is during the day. The experience I had in London really opened my eyes to how different the world outside of the States really is.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGigR1O6J0I/AAAAAAAAAAM/z_WFsLuOSNU/s1600/IMG_2649+copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; float: left; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGigR1O6J0I/AAAAAAAAAAM/z_WFsLuOSNU/s320/IMG_2649+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505826772668262210" border="0" /></a><br /></div>How to describe London? People are rushing in every direction, cars speed up when they see people (100 points for every-time they actually hit a pedestrian, the tube (subway) speeds in and out, lights flip on and off. London is also very sophisticated. People are always well dressed 24/7. You will see men walking around in business suits, tuxedos, ties, sometimes even top hats! Women are very stylish and trendy and almost no one wears anything casual such as jeans or tank tops. Instead they are in fancy blouses, skirts, dresses, and heels.<br /><br />Traveling is a definite unique experience as well. Almost no one travels on wheels, unless of course its by taxi, bus, or bikes. Part of the culture that we experienced was traveling on foot. Driving is a most definite nightmare because of how small the streets are as well as how busy it gets in London.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGi4CZ3IP1I/AAAAAAAAACM/RvmW4sWna5M/s1600/IMG_2656+copy.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_O8V15lbFFbg/TGi4CZ3IP1I/AAAAAAAAACM/RvmW4sWna5M/s320/IMG_2656+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505852895901794130" border="0" /></a><br />Because I have never before experienced being so far away from home, navigating was quite a challenge as well as a nightmare for me at first. Never before have I taken so many forms of transportation from buses, the tube (subway), taxi, or train. However, because of these challenges, London is now the most exciting adventure and exhilarating experience I have ever had. London is so different from anything I have ever seen back home and its definitely inspirational in every way!<br /><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;font-family:times new roman;" >-Jenni Vo</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;font-family:times new roman;" >Woodbury University</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic;font-family:times new roman;" >Graphic Design</span>nikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-66230497608716153722010-07-23T03:07:00.002-07:002010-08-16T00:11:10.652-07:00My visual/cultural experience by Ambar Gomez<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WmAkzcBmEeADl_T4DvyXYtlnQ5ajfoKIDX7VTXVs-C5Hzn1CiqX-Q5HFX3-wMJx1cEq9UWRxYjqjLkhs-ANQo1SxrKtT8GLBexJYz488sZN29IYWzhpwwZUoUBiYYqItcuoQe3f4jAJZ/s1600/London+Ex+29+copy.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6WmAkzcBmEeADl_T4DvyXYtlnQ5ajfoKIDX7VTXVs-C5Hzn1CiqX-Q5HFX3-wMJx1cEq9UWRxYjqjLkhs-ANQo1SxrKtT8GLBexJYz488sZN29IYWzhpwwZUoUBiYYqItcuoQe3f4jAJZ/s400/London+Ex+29+copy.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5505893537320447906" border="0" /></a>

It forced me to look closer at the city and the culture. There were a lot of things that I expected to see when I arrived in London, the double decker buses, the London Eye, old fashioned taxis, and the changing of the guards. Each day we went out and did things that tourists would do and things that tourists wouldn’t do, but I feel like we gained so much more than just getting a picture next to Big Ben. We explored the city by day and by night. We interacted with people who live in London. We visited museums, which inspired me in ways that words cannot describe.<span style=""> </span>I will never forget London, it changed me as a photographer and as a designer.

All I knew was I wanted to take it all in. I signed up for my visa, packed my bags, boarded a plane and began a trip that I didn’t know what to expect or what to prepare for. Shortly after arriving I immediately fell in love with the city. People that surrounded us in the subway were so eager to start conversations, help carry bags and give good directions. After settling in, the first thing I wanted to do was leave my tainted-pink room behind and explore the city. Ever since then, I hadn’t stopped. This trip opened my eyes to all of the opportunities and possibilities outside of the states that only London could offer. The rich history, architecture, and graphics that the city had to offer were breathtaking and unforgettable. The culture, adventures, and encounters were worth all of the overtime shifts I had to suffer through to afford such a trip. Through this experience my perspective on life and design changed and altered to a standard I could integrate daily and to an experience I would never forget.<br /><br /><br /><br /></span><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic; There are so many urban-decayed and unique typography that isn't found any other place in the world. Typography is a lifestyle in London as is in any other part of the world. It is the voice of the artists in graffiti as well as the signage. There are many textures and beautiful typography that are invisible to the norm and being able to notice these things made me feel as if I was on an expedition. Finding my own alphabet through my travels helped make my London Alphabet unique and interesting and my favorite part was looking for the textures and unique colors.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family: times new roman;">-Jenni Vo</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family: times new roman;">Woodbury University</span><br /><span style="font-style: italic; font-family: times new roman;">Graphic Design</span>nikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-55518813752976153022010-07-23T03:02:00.008-07:002010-08-20T10:06:56.459-07:00london alphabet by Jenn Nassef<div style="text-align: left;">I adore typography, so when we were assigned the photographic exercise of collecting images of numbers 0-9 and the full alphabet I found it quite intriguing. As usual, we had our long walk up a hill but all worth it once we entered Highgate Cemetery, a space filled with lush greenery with headstones and religious statues merging in cluster form with intimate paths to go deep within the trees. The drizzle added to the effect and set the mood as we walked on newly wet soil, whispering our thoughts as we shared feelings usually reserved for other occasions. <br /><br />-Laura Orozco<br />Woodbury University<br />Architecturenikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1003994158261722285.post-23416918773538055832010-07-23T03:02:00.005-07:002010-08-01T12:37:07.940-07:00highgate cemetary by Alex Kuhse<div style="text-align: center;">Highgate Cemetary is one of those places on Earth you can spend years looking for the right words to describe, but have none of them make any sense until you see it for yourself...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggXp12vT6HDQs91Jvc1G9TdHGFkyAWm4wojPgYipNNrSgKnIi2GdT7pRZ0N-VM8SYM4Y1UnG9z4V1IfiPLxTs4Ckjm4VmpK7OQil2YTSVaRvkmFN4iZxLWb2utY1ZrLgDM2Qm6e34RHCMn/s320/highgate.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500486111695995602" /><div><br /></div><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbdphIawUM9Pq0RqbsmWI8ME5CnSAgN4YZo8STJdFgJMQ-WFk8zP-BGjCaB0eYhXg8ErLSx9NlEF_OYESMWiIOcX57nO61KA9Lo314lnDNsJmfHLQNlqfzquqKVyriVxbp7G4z2RYoj50H/s1600/upsidedown.jpg" style="text-decoration: none;"><img style="text-align: left;display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 214px; " src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbdphIawUM9Pq0RqbsmWI8ME5CnSAgN4YZo8STJdFgJMQ-WFk8zP-BGjCaB0eYhXg8ErLSx9NlEF_OYESMWiIOcX57nO61KA9Lo314lnDNsJmfHLQNlqfzquqKVyriVxbp7G4z2RYoj50H/s320/upsidedown.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5500487526982255442" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Walking through the eerily lush landscape amongst displaced headstones and decayed statues is somewhat comforting. It's a contemporary art gallery displaying works of artist with creativity that was abundantly clear in the artwork. Though most of the artwork should be appreicated at face value and didn't need any deeper digging, it was a fun experience. It was colorful, exciting, and novel. In other words, it was exactly the type of thing I'm interested in. <a href="http://www.harrods.com/harrodsstore/">Harrods</a> was a whole different experience. It was more of a maze than a shopping center. We only had half an hour to look throught the whole place. That wasn't even enough time to window shop! The dress code was ridiculous if you ask me. I actually had to change my ripped jeana before we even left the dorms to make sure I can get in. While leaving Harrods, I saw a girl get rejected from going in the store because she was wearing jean shorts. It was crazy. ahaha. Definitely an London Experience.<div><br /></div><div><i>Aaron Lopez</i></div><div><i>Woodbury University</i></div><div><i>Graphic Design</i></div>nikuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13164662189296034220noreply@blogger.com0
