Dusk till Dawn Photo Expedition by Kim Galanto

Our dusk till dawn photo expedition was one of our more... interesting activities, and while staying up until the wee hours of the morning is not new to many of us, this particular evening was not the same as say a stressful all-nighter panicking in front of a computer screen just a few hours before a jury presentation. While some may argue that some parts of our evening excursion were indeed stressful, especially for our feet, the other parts were simply relaxing. With no particular destination in mind, other than a 4am flea market, we set out just before midnight and began walking the quiet streets of london aimlessly, documenting the evening. Now don't get me wrong when I say quiet because while the city does sleep surprisingly early, we were definitely not the only one's out.

After I told these three I was a design/photography student, they tried to recruit me to liverpool to photograph them. The lovely woman pulled out her blackberry and with slurring words asked for my contact information; she dropped the phone and it fell into pieces on the wet cold floor (it had been raining on and off). I thought maybe it'd be best to politely decline, take the picture they requested, and say goodnight. They were fun. Walking around soho was a good place to be during earlier hours as clubs were still poppin' and bodies were still movin'.

Now people watching is fun no matter what the time or location, but what was more interesting that night, was seeing the city at a time that lacked people. Shopping areas like Regent Street and Carnaby Street are places that see traffic in large numbers on the regular. But at 2am, when most of the city was asleep, we saw the city at its most bare.

From the light reflected streets to the beautiful brick buildings to the cloudy infinite that lay above us. With a very small presence of london locals, seeing all of this in one glance in extreme cold was...

... absolutely refreshing.
